Is this ETF Laying the Foundation for a Rally in Crude Oil?

Picking bottoms is not something one should do if you're going to be a successful trader. But looking at market that may be forming a bottom is a good exercise, and one that you should be doing on a regular basis. I had done this before gold reversed to the upside traded over $1300 an ounce. Maybe it's time to look at crude oil and see if it's beginning to set itself up for a move to the upside.
Technically, the Trade Triangles remain negative on crude oil, so there is no reversal showing up with those technical tools. The story is a little bit different with the RSI indicator. This particular indicator is showing that there is a big positive divergence on the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (PACF:XLE), and it is one that spans months.
Today I'm looking at the ETF XLE and the fact that if it closes higher for the week, it will be a positive sign. The previous week saw a very important Japanese candlestick formation call a "Dragon Fly Doji" this can be interpreted as a strong indication of reversal. It all depend's on how XLE closes this Friday.
Should XLE close higher than ($76.56) the market will have created a "Bullish Engulfing Line" confirming that the previous weeks, "Dragon Fly Doji" was indeed a reversal to the upside.
Take a look at both charts, one is a daily graph showing a large positive divergence on the RSI indicator. The other graph is a weekly Candlestick chart highlighting the “Dragon Fly Doji” and the potential for a “Bullish Engulfing Line” to occur this week.
So here is my 3 step strategy for the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (PACF:XLE):
1. I'm going to watch this market closely and have it on my radar.
2. I want to watch the 50 line on the RSI. A close over this line will be another important clue and strong indication that this market is bottoming or has bottomed out.
3. I'm also watching the weekly Trade Triangle on crude oil, should this Trade Triangle turn green, you'll want to BUY XLE, as it closely tracks crude oil.
Now let's see how the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (PACF:XLE) does in the future.
Every success with MarketClub,

The Odds Are In Your Favor To Trade Gold This Quarter

Using MarketClub's weekly and daily Trade Triangles, I have found that over the last 6 1/2 years, the second quarter of the year has shown the most consistent profits in gold. These past results showed a quarterly gain on average of $7,104.83 on one futures contract.

Gold (XAUUSDO) enjoyed a nice move up earlier in the year, reaching a high of $1393.35 and has pulled back to an important Fibonacci support area. I want to watch this market very carefully and wait for the weekly Trade Triangle to turn green to get bullish on gold. That's not to say I am not longer term bullish, it only means that my timing will kick in when the weekly Trade Triangle turns into a green Trade Triangle.

Besides the Fibonacci support area, the RSI indicator is also at a very low level, similar to that of December 2013.

Trading Results

Q2 of 2008            $965.00
Q2 of 2009            $870.00
Q2 of 2010         $7,057.00
Q2 of 2011         $6,700.00
Q2 of 2012         $4,223.00
Q2 of 2013       $31,260.00
TOTAL             $42,629.00
AVE GAIN         $7,104.83

The results are based on signals using MarketClub's real time spot gold prices and margin of $8,333. This particular trading strategy and results are based on trading one futures contract, both from the long and short side. An ETF could be substituted, but I suspect the results would be quite different.

Trading Rules

How to use MarketClub's Trade Triangles to trade gold:

Use the weekly Trade Triangle to determine the major trend and initial positions. Use the daily Trade Triangles for timing purposes.

Gold entry and exit signals are generated from the spot Gold (XAUUSDO) chart.

Let me give you an example: if the last weekly Trade Triangle is GREEN, this indicates that the major trend is up for that market. You would use the initial GREEN weekly Trade Triangle as an entry point. You would then use the next RED daily Trade Triangle as an exit point. You would only reenter a long position if and when a GREEN daily Trade Triangle kicked in.

You would then use the next RED daily Trade Triangle as an exit point, provided that the GREEN weekly Trade Triangle is still in place and the trend is positive for that market. The reverse is true when you have a RED weekly Trade Triangle. You would use the initial RED weekly Trade Triangle as an entry point for a short position. You would then use the next GREEN daily Trade Triangle as an exit point.

Only Trade With Risk Capital

Even if the odds are in your favor, don't forget that there are no guarantees in trading and only funds that you can afford to lose should be used to trade with.

See you in the markets!

The Stock Market Makes New Highs - So What Else Is New?

In spite of all the Washington wrangling over the IRS, Benghazi and the FBI, stock market managed to put in a solid performance for the week. The S&P 500 is closing up 1.4%, the NASDAQ a similar amount of the DOW with a gain of just over 1%.

As we have said before, standing in front of the train or catching a falling knife in the market is not a good idea right now. The old adage of "sell in May and go away" may still work, but we wouldn't count on it. We would only count on our Trade Triangle technology to tell us what is going to happen.

Check out what we are using.....this technology be the only thing to get you through May of 2013 with your portfolio in tact. Just click here for a sample.

The Gold Meltdown – What Happened?

In today’s Trade School video, we’re going to be looking into what caused the recent meltdown in gold prices. How could gold drop so precipitously in such a short time, given what’s going on in the world? Did it have anything to do with the ETF GLD or was a country forced to sell its precious metals to satisfy creditors?

We will share with you how you could have systematically made money in gold using our Trade Triangle technology, which has produced some very positive results over the years.

Since 1975, there have been 13 bear markets with an average drop around 14%. This would put gold below the $1,300 level, around $1,280.

In this short 4 minute video on gold, we will illustrate the importance of having a solid game plan and a market proven approach. We will go through each trade in gold and share with you the results of using our Trade Triangle approach from the beginning of the year.

This approach is not for everyone, but we think you will agree that the results certainly speak for themselves.

Bullish Signals Galore.....But We Are Not Out of the Woods Yet

The S&P 500 index remains in a trading range. The cyclicality of the S&P 500 has not been lost on us, and we suspect that we may see this index consolidate and move higher for the balance of December. The Trade Triangles are not confirming the current up move, at the moment. Long term and Intermediate term traders should either be in cash or continue to hold short positions in this index with appropriate money management stops.

Despite the move up and pullback in gold today, it did not change the status of our weekly Trade Triangle. We remain positive on this market and expect we will see it move much higher in 2012 as inflation kicks in around the world. Long term traders should remain positive for this precious metal. Intermediate term traders should be out of this market at the moment and on the sidelines waiting for a buy signal with the weekly Trade Triangle.

The $101.75 area basis the January crude oil contract appears to be offering resistance for this commodity at the present time. Crude oil remains the shining star of the commodity world and has become the currency of choice. With all of our Trade Triangles green, giving us a +100 Chart Analysis Score, it would appear as though we are in a strong bullish trend. At the present time all our Trade Triangles remain in a positive mode which is the direction of the major long term trend. Major resistance remains between the $102 and $103 levels. Long term, and intermediate term traders should be long this market with appropriate money management stops.

Adam Hewison: The Greek Mindset Rocks The Markets!

One of my favorite musical pieces, is the music from Zorba the Greek. If you haven’t heard the music, or if you were too young to have seen the movie (1964), starring Anthony Quinn and Alan Bates, you might want to watch it. The movie captures the Greek mindset perfectly, and that mindset is still in place almost 50 years later. Zorba the movie is available on Netflix to those of you who still use that service.

To carry the musical metaphor one step further you might want to classify last weeks market action, as pure rock and roll. We rocked and we rolled, but by the end of the week when the music had stopped, nothing was settled, despite the G20 meeting in one of the ritziest towns on the French Riviera.

Funny, we don’t seen to see any of these politicians pulling back on spending our money, while preaching austerity to the world. And what did they accomplish? They basically accomplishing nothing while eating good food and drinking good wine and schmoozing. Sounds like a party to this observer.

I could go on. but let’s get to the heart of the matter, and that is how the markets closed for the week, and what new surprises does the next week’s trading have in store for us.

Okay, now let’s go to the charts and the video covering the six markets we cover publicly, and see what our Trade Triangle technology is telling us about the direction of the markets.

Adam Hewison on This Week's "Obama Magical Mystery Tour"

Like a lot of folks, I enjoy the music of the Beatles.  While watching the news this morning, it struck me that President Obama’s bus tour was not unlike the Beatles “Magical Mystery Tour” album of 1967.
Let me explain… Here we have a President who is so out of touch with what this country is going through, he finds it necessary to go out on a three day bus tour at tax payers expense and announce that he has a job plan.  But wait, this is the magical part: he’s not going to announce this plan until after his vacation!  And the mystery part: if he has a plan, why didn’t he announce it!
Did America really need to hear him announce that he has a plan, then not announce what the plan is?  I think not.  If you are unemployed, I’m sure the last thing you want to hear is that your president, the leader of these United States, has a job plan but his vacation is far more important than every day American jobs.  Talk about self centered.  There I said it, the king has no clothes. So let’s go to the 6 major markets we track every day and see how we can create and maintain your wealth in 2011.
By the way, one of my favorite track from the Beatles “Magical Mystery Tour” album is, wait for it, “The Fool on the Hill” written by Paul McCartney, sort of fits the times don’t you think?
S&P 500
Monthly Trade Triangles for Long Term Trends                = Negative
Weekly Trade Triangles for Intermediate Term Trends    = Negative
Daily Trade Triangles for Short Term Trends                     = Positive
Combined Strength of Trend Score                                    = – 85
Chances are, the Fibonacci retracement zone between 1,223 and 1,253 will stop any further upside action. The heavily oversold condition has been corrected and we continue to see choppy action overall for this index.  Please remember that the major trend is down for the equity markets and that strong rallies represent shorting opportunities with tight money management stops.
SILVER
Monthly Trade Triangles for Long Term Trends                = Positive
Weekly Trade Triangles for Intermediate Term Trends    = Negative
Daily Trade Triangles for Short Term Trends                     = Positive
Combined Strength of Trend Score                                    = + 75
Intermediate term traders should be on the sidelines and out of silver at the present time.  Our – 75 Chart Analysis Score indicates more two-way market and a trading range.  If the market is any good, it will again resume its upward trend.  Let us be patient and wait for our Trade Triangles to kick in and give us solid buy signals.

Weekly Trade Triangles for Intermediate Term Trends    = Positive
Daily Trade Triangles for Short Term Trends                     = Positive
Combined Strength of Trend Score                                    = + 100
Gold has traded as high as $1814.40 in the cash market before pulling almost $100.  The current rally is the one to watch.  The $1,723 recent low is acting as support.  The gold market has a tendency to move in swing movements both on the upside and the downside.  We have been indicating that we felt gold was going to make its high in the 3rd quarter of this year and we may have seen the high for the time being.  Both intermediate and short term traders should protect profits with tight money management stops.
CRUDE OIL

Weekly Trade Triangles for Intermediate Term Trends    = Negative
Daily Trade Triangles for Short Term Trends                     = Positive
Combined Strength of Trend Score                                    = – 75
This market has now moved back into the Donchian trading channel and is approaching a key Fibonacci retracement level of $91.00 a barrel.  We would not be surprised to see a little further upside action here.  The longer term trend for this commodity is down based on our monthly Trade Triangle technology.
DOLLAR INDEX

Weekly Trade Triangles for Intermediate Term Trends    = Negative
Daily Trade Triangles for Short Term Trends                     = Negative
Combined Strength of Trend Score                                    = – 70
The dollar index continues to remain in a broad trading range.  The index remains below its 200 day moving average while our longer-term Trade Triangle remains positive.

It would appear that this index has put in an interim low when it traded down to 315 last Tuesday.  Fibonacci resistant levels start at 332.95 (50%) and 337.14 (61.8%).  We want to be patient and let our Trade Triangles do the heavy lifting and wait for a signal from that front.

What a Weekend....The United States Has Been Marked Down!

What a weekend!! S&P marks America down to to AA+. That bombshell comes on top of everything else that is happening like the markets crashing and Italy imploding. But you know what, it is also a time of great opportunity if you follow our Trade Triangle technology.

Let’s see how the markets performed last week. Out of the six markets we track every trading day, four markets were in negative territory for the week. The two markets that did not end up in the minus column were gold up 2.25% and the dollar index which was up 1.06%

The percentage loser for the week was crude oil which lost a massive 9.21% and is now officially in a bear trend according to our Trade Triangle technology. The S&P500 was close behind with another negative week which saw this index shed 7.18%.

Let’s take a look at the charts, because unlike politicians, pundits and gurus, they tell you what is really going on in the world.

So here’s what happened last week in the major markets....

S&P500: change for the week: -7.18%
Monthly Trade Triangles for Long Term Trends = Negative
Weekly Trade Triangles for Intermediate Term Trends = Negative
Daily Trade Triangles for Short Term Trends = Negative

The Bulls Battled Back Today!

The Bulls battled back today and forced many of the Bears to cover their short positions in the equity markets. However, nothing has changed, nothing has been resolved, and we still have the same unresolved debt problems.

Gold and silver continue to hold well and look to be purchased on pullbacks from current levels. Crude oil popped to the upside today and remains in a broad trading range with no clear cut direction.

All in all it’s been a pretty boring session so far on a Tuesday. What I really want to see is how these markets close today, and more importantly, how they close for the week. If we have a lower close for the week in the equity markets we would consider that to be an early sign of a potential bear market.

Now, let’s go to the markets and see how we can protect and make your money grow in 2011.

S&P 500

Monthly Trade Triangles for Long-Term Trends = Positive
Weekly Trade Triangles for Intermediate Term Trends = Positive
Daily Trade Triangles for Short-Term Trends = Negative
Combined Strength of Trend Score = + 85
The 1300 level on the S&P index was enough support to give this market a little bounce today. Look for resistance to come in starting at 1320 and extending up to 1326. The 200 day moving average, which is perhaps the most important average to follow on this index, comes in at 1278 today. It will be important to see how this market closes for the week.

SILVER

Monthly Trade Triangles for Long Term Trends = Positive
Weekly Trade Triangles for Intermediate Term Trends = Positive
Daily Trade Triangles for Short Term Trends = Positive
Combined Strength of Trend Score = + 90

Traders should be long this market as all of our Trade Triangles are in a positive mode indicating higher prices ahead. As we have been indicating, we are expecting this market to reach highs towards the latter part of Q3 and early Q4. Look for support for this market at 38.00. The upside target for silver based on the Fibonacci count of 61.8% is $42.98.

GOLD

Monthly Trade Triangles for Long Term Trends = Positive
Weekly Trade Triangles for Intermediate Term Trends = Positive
Daily Trade Triangles for Short Term Trends = Positive
Combined Strength of Trend Score = + 90

Gold continues to hover over the 1600 level and there appears to be little enthusiasm as of this writing to be aggressively selling this market short. All of our Trade Triangles are positive and we are looking for this market to move higher. Traders who took advantage of the 52 week rule on Friday should have taken profits on this position today. This would have produced a gain of nine dollars an ounce. We are looking for gold to move higher until the end of Q3 and possibly into Q4. Intermediate targets for gold are $1,640 and $1,650.

CRUDE OIL

Monthly Trade Triangles for Long Term Trends = Negative
Weekly Trade Triangles for Intermediate Term Trends = Negative
Daily Trade Triangles for Short Term Trends = Positive
Combined Strength of Trend Score = – 55

The crude oil market continues to move in a sideways pattern and this is reflected in our -55 Chart Analysis Score which indicates a trading range is at hand. Resistance comes in as we have stated previously over $99.00 and must be taken out if this market is to move higher. Support is now moved to the center of the Donchian trading channel which comes in around $94.50 today. We see nothing to do in this market until it breaks out of the current stalemate that it is in.

DOLLAR INDEX

Monthly Trade Triangles for Long Term Trends = Positive
Weekly Trade Triangles for Intermediate Term Trends = Positive
Daily Trade Triangles for Short Term Trends = Negative
Combined Strength of Trend Score = + 55
For the past two months, the Dollar Index has been trapped in a broad trading range. The Dollar Index remains below its 200 day moving average. The longer term trend for the Dollar Index is positive based on our Trade Triangle technology. Resistance remains between 75.50 and 76.50. Support comes in today at 74.00.

REUTERS/JEFFERIES CRB COMMODITY INDEX

Monthly Trade Triangles for Long Term Trends = Negative
Weekly Trade Triangles for Intermediate Term Trends = Positive
Daily Trade Triangles for Short Term Trends = Negative
Combined Strength of Trend Score = + 55

The upward pop in crude oil today was enough to push the CRB Index to the upside. The +55 score indicates that this market remains in a trading range in the near term. At the present time, our Trade Triangle technology is mixed. Resistance is now at 350 and support looks to be at 340.

New Video: Is Wheat the Hottest Market in the World?

Never miss another major move again, and this headline proves it

Severe Russian drought forces grain export ban, Moscow, Russia [CNN], As Russia reels from the worst drought in nearly 40 years ....

The wheat market is the hottest market in the world right now due to severe drought in Russia. But how did MarketClub's "Trade Triangle" technology do in this rocket to the stars market?

MarketClub's "Trade Triangle" technology received a "go long" wheat signal over 6 weeks ago. Wheat was trading at $5.17 back then. It is now trading at over $8.00 a bushel.

Wheat is one of the six key components in MarketClub's World Cup Portfolio (WCP, formerly World Commodity Portfolio). In the twelve quarters we have tracked this portfolio, wheat has been profitable in 11 out of those twelve quarters. This quarter looks to be a bonanza with profits in excess of $11,000 per contract.

In this video we show you the move, the "Trade Triangles," and the results. It is a not to be missed video.

New Video: One Year Later, Reality Sets in for the SP 500

It's been just a little over a year since we had our first major buy signal for the S&P 500 at 888.70 on 5/4/09. Since that time, the S&P 500 has climbed approximately 61.8% from the lows that were seen in early March of '09 and the highs that were seen in October of '07.

We take our "Trade Triangle" technology very seriously and this signal today (5/25) at 1044.50 is our first major sell signal since 7/1/08 at 1,272.00 and should not be ignored.

There are a whole host of problems that are coming due around the world that will have negative consequences for the equity markets. The problems in Greece and Europe are well known and are likely to continue for the balance of the year. This is going to have a negative impact on markets in general.

In our new short video we show you exactly what we think is going to happen to the S&P 500 market and just how you can protect yourself if we are correct. As always our "Trade Triangles" will dictate all market action. At the present time all of our "Trade Triangles" are negative and pointing to the downside. This indicates that a very strong trend is in place and it likely to continue.

Many traders, especially younger traders, are unaware of how bear markets work. Bear markets tend to be demoralizing as they do not have any strong and sustained rallies. They tend to erode as more and more traders become unnerved and throw in the towel.

We invite you to take a look at this new video with no registration and no charge.

Gold Catches Traders by Surprise (video analysis)

The move down in gold yesterday surprised many traders and flashed an exit signal based on MarketClub's daily "Trade Triangle" technology. As we have mentioned before, we felt that gold was in a broad trading range and were not optimistic that it would shoot higher.

The action yesterday confirms that we have more of a two way market. We expect we'll see further selling on any rallies from this level.

Just click here to watch today's video, where we'll share with you some thoughts we have on gold based on one important element: how gold energy fields propel this market.

Jim Cramer Actually Got It Right… Only, Three Months Later?

From Adam Hewison....

It’s no secret that we’ve been socked with snow this past week. During that time, I was flipping through channels and came across Jim Cramer’s show Mad Money. I’ve said this before, Jim is a great entertainer. I am not so sure how good he is at picking stocks.

He mentioned shorting one stock, Garmin (symbol GRMN). What he said about Garmin sort of made sense to me both from a technical and fundamental viewpoint.

So here is the fundamental viewpoint....Many of the new phones that are coming to market are referred to as “smart phones” and have the same capabilities as a standalone, turn by turn GPS. In my own case, I have an Apple iPhone. I was looking for a navigational application in the App Store and found exactly what I needed and the good news was, it was free, that’s right free. So the question is, why would anyone pay $150, $200, or even $300 to Garmin to have one of their systems? Fundamentally, I think his case is very sound.

Then, I looked at the technical picture for Garmin and noticed that we had a red monthly “Trade Triangle” sell signal some time ago (November 4th to be exact at the price point $27.06). So here we are some three to four months later having Jim Cramer tell us that Garmin may be a short.

For my money, I want to be trading the “Trade Triangles” and not listening to Jim Cramer and getting old news.

In this short video on Garmin, you will see exactly what were looking at and where the signals kick in. I also point out where one very important technical indicator is at a tipping point.
